Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust achieves certification to the Cyber Essentials scheme with IT Governance’s DIY package

04/07/2016

IT Governance, the cyber security consultancy firm and CREST-accredited certification body, has helped leading not-for-profit social housing provider Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust achieve certification to Cyber Essentials.

Alan Calder, the founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, said: “Congratulations to Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust for achieving certification to the UK Government-backed Cyber Essentials scheme. The certification demonstrates a sound foundation of basic cyber hygiene measures that organisations should implement.”

Rick Smith, IT Manager of Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust, said: “The Cyber Essentials certification was a very straight-forward and cost effective process that enabled us to demonstrate that we have covered all the basics in terms of IT Security.”

The Cyber Essentials scheme, which was developed by the UK Government, defines clear controls that organisations of any size should implement to mitigate cyber risks and improve their cyber security posture within the context of the Government’s 10 Steps to Cyber Security.

The scheme requires five security controls to be implemented to help prevent “around 80% of cyber attacks”. The five controls are: secure configuration, boundary firewalls and Internet gateways, access control and administrative privilege management, patch management, and malware protection.

Cyber Essentials-certified organisations can demonstrate to customers, partners, investors and others that they have taken the necessary steps to reduce cyber risks.

The Buckinghamshire-based Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust opted for IT Governance’s Do It Yourself package, a transparent, flexible and cost-effective solution. The package includes a review of the self-assessment questionnaire (SAQ), the required external and internal vulnerability scans, and the certification service.
