New ESOS & ISO 50001 EnMS Documentation Toolkit helps organisations comply with ESOS

18/05/2015

IT Governance, the leading IT governance, risk management and compliance provider, is reminding thousands of qualifying organisations in the UK that they must carry out their ESOS assessment and notify the Environment Agency by 5 December 2015.

To help companies meet the ESOS requirements, it is offering its customers a new toolkit: ESOS & ISO 50001 Energy Management System Documentation Toolkit.

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) Regulations 2014 were established by the UK government in order to implement the EU Energy Efficiency Directive, which aims to cut carbon emissions across the EU by requiring large businesses to make energy savings.

Organisations that qualify for an ESOS assessment, must:

  • measure their total energy consumption;
  • identify areas of significant energy consumption;
  • consider available routes to compliance;
  • ensure areas of significant energy consumption are covered by a route to compliance;
  • appoint a lead assessor;
  • appoint one or more board-level directors to review assessment findings;
  • make a notification of ESOS compliance online.

According to IT Governance, the easiest way to meet the ESOS requirements is to implement an energy management system (EnMS) compliant with and certified to the international standard ISO 50001.

The ESOS & ISO 50001 Energy Management System Documentation Toolkit is designed to integrate ESOS requirements with the documentation requirements of ISO 50001, the energy management standard. Using the toolkit enables companies to achieve certification to ISO 50001, which will help them demonstrate compliance with ESOS.

Containing pre-written documents and templates that promote the efficient use and consumption of energy resources, this toolkit will:

  • help organisations to make better use of their existing energy-consuming assets;
  • create transparency and facilitate communication on the management of energy resources;
  • promote energy management best practices and reinforce good energy management behaviours;
  • assist in evaluating and prioritising the implementation of new energy-efficient technologies.

The ESOS & ISO 50001 Energy Management System Documentation Toolkit is available from IT Governance at www.itgovernance.co.uk/shop/p-751.aspx.
