The new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will unify data protection and ease the flow of personal data across the EU when it comes into force in May 2018.
It will supersede national data protection laws based on the EU Data Protection Directive (95/46/EC), and will apply to every organisation in the world that does business with EU residents.
Failure to comply with the GDPR could result in fines of up to 4% of annual global turnover or €20 million – whichever is the greater.
