IT Governance launches Certified EU GDPR Practitioner training course

23/05/2016

IT Governance, the leader in cyber security and data protection compliance, has launched a Certified EU General Data Protection Regulation Practitioner training course. The course has been designed to help organisations prepare for the data protection officer (DPO) role and achieve compliance with the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is set to come into force in May 2018.

The Certified EU General Data Protection Regulation Practitioner training course enables delegates to fulfil the role of data protection officer (DPO) within an organisation. Under the EU GDPR, the appointment of a data protection officer will be mandatory for some controllers and processors, particularly in the public sector and those involved in ‘big data’ processing activities.

Alan Calder, the founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, says: “Certain organisations will now be required to hire, appoint or contract a data protection officer (DPO) to effectively develop suitable policies, manage and implement processes, and educate employees in order to build a strong data security posture. Effective data protection is now a core competence that all organisations must develop and sustain internally, in line with the newly approved EU GDPR.”

The four-day course provides delegates with in-depth knowledge of the EU GDPR, offering practical implementation advice and guidance on the technical aspects of data protection. The course covers implementation requirements, policies and processes, data breach reporting, consent rules, data mapping, risk management, privacy compliance frameworks, data privacy impact assessments and many other aspects of the Regulation.

“The new EU GDPR requires substantial work to assess the risks and implement new controls before it enters into law. The training course equips organisations with solid knowledge about the practical implications of the GDPR to avoid the heavy fines and reputational damage associated with non-compliance,” says Alan Calder.

Once the course is completed, delegates take the EU General Data Protection Regulation Practitioner (EU GDPR P) examination, a 90-minute multiple-choice exam. IT Governance is an approved provider of IBITGQ courses and exams are accredited by gasq, an ISO/IEC 17024 certification body.

Candidates with little prior knowledge of the EU GDPR are advised to undertake the Certified EU General Data Protection Foundation training course to help build a basic understanding of the new Regulation. By booking for both course delegates save 15% on the total price.
