IT Governance congratulates digital technology company Kainos on achieving Cyber Essentials certification

19/01/2015

IT Governance, the leading cyber security services provider and CREST-accredited certification body for the UK Government’s Cyber Essentials scheme, is pleased to congratulate its client Kainos, a digital technology solutions provider, on achieving Cyber Essentials certification.

Alan Calder, founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, says: “I am delighted to congratulate Kainos on their successful certification. The Cyber Essentials badge should not only help the company better protect its sensitive information and that of its clients, but also give it a competitive edge.”

The Cyber Essentials scheme was officially launched on 5 June 2014. It is emerging as the default minimum standard for cyber security, and from 1 October 2014 the UK Government requires organisations to prove compliance with the scheme in order to bid for government contracts that involve the handling of sensitive and personal information, and the provision of certain technical products and services.

Calder adds: “Cyber Essentials provides a set of five critical controls, based on the most common Internet-based threats, which have to be implemented to meet its requirements. It is an important scheme in the context of the rising cyber threats.”

In order to achieve Cyber Essentials certification, companies need to complete a self-assessment questionnaire, which must be signed off by a senior company representative and then verified by an external certification body. An external vulnerability scan will also be required if the company has chosen to be certified through a CREST-approved certification body like IT Governance.

Kainos took advantage of IT Governance’s unique electronic submission service, CyberComply, which is not only a convenient method to apply for Cyber Essentials certification, but also helps organisations save time and money.

The IT Governance Cyber Essentials Certification service, including CyberComply, can be booked online at www.itgovernance.co.uk/shop/p-1622.aspx.
