IT Governance congratulates client ELEXON on achieving Cyber Essentials Plus certification

07/04/2015

IT Governance, the leading cyber security services provider and CREST-accredited certification body for the UK Government’s Cyber Essentials scheme, congratulates ELEXON, the electricity settlement body and core provider of data and reports to the electricity industry, on achieving Cyber Essentials Plus certification.

Alan Calder, founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, says, “I am pleased to congratulate ELEXON on their successful certification.

“Cyber Essentials compliance is essential for any British organisation that wants to improve its protection against cyber attacks while also gaining a competitive edge.”

Nigel Smith, CFO and Director of Professional Services of ELEXON LTD, says, “This is separate from our ISO 27001:2013 accreditation. By achieving this Cyber Essential Plus certification we demonstrate to our customers that ELEXON has robust practices and policies which protect us from cyber-attacks.”

ELEXON has joined the ranks of over 300 organisations certified to the Cyber Essentials scheme. Compliance with the scheme is a requirement when bidding for government contracts that involve the handling of sensitive and personal information, and the provision of certain technical products and services.

The scheme mandates five key controls that must be implemented to meet its requirements. These are: secure configuration, boundary firewalls and Internet gateways, access control and administrative privilege management, patch management and malware protection.

To achieve Cyber Essentials certification, companies need to complete a self-assessment questionnaire, signed off by a senior company representative, which is then verified by an external certification body. An external vulnerability scan will also be required if the company has chosen to be certified through a CREST-approved certification body like IT Governance.

Cyber Essentials Plus certification requires a more advanced level of assurance. In addition to the requirements for Cyber Essentials, the organisation must also have an internal assessment and internal scan, conducted on-site by the certification body.

IT Governance offers three ‘all-in’ packaged solutions for certification to Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus. Each solution is a combination of products and services in a fixed-price, fit-for-use package sure to meet any organisation’s preferences for tackling compliance projects. Each of the three packaged solutions is available at a transparent price that enables every organisation to know exactly what their chosen journey to Cyber Essentials certification will cost.
