IT Governance certifies software company CogniSoft to Cyber Essentials

30/03/2015

IT Governance, the leading cyber security services provider and CREST-accredited certification body for the UK Government’s Cyber Essentials scheme, has awarded specialist software company CogniSoft their Cyber Essentials certificate.

Alan Calder, founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, says, “I am pleased to congratulate CogniSoft on achieving certification to Cyber Essentials. Compliance with the Cyber Essentials scheme demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to securing valuable data, and it is vital to ensuring better protection from cyber attacks.”

Tony Howarth (CogniSoft Technical Director) says, “We are very pleased to achieve another certification in information security. CogniSoft are committed to information security and Cyber Essentials is part of the overarching security strategy that we use to build upon our ISO 27001 standard.”

The Cyber Essentials scheme represents a set of controls and implementation guidance for basic cyber hygiene against which organisations can achieve certification.

The UK Government requires organisations to prove their compliance with the scheme in order to bid for government contracts that involve the handling of sensitive and personal information, and the provision of certain technical products and services.

A new report by HM Government in conjunction with insurance broker Marsh also revealed plans to include Cyber Essentials certification in insurers’ risk assessments for SMEs.

In order to achieve Cyber Essentials certification, companies need to complete a self-assessment questionnaire, which is signed off by a senior company representative and then verified by an external certification body. An external vulnerability scan will also be required if the company has chosen to be certified through a CREST-approved certification body like IT Governance.

IT Governance’s Cyber Essentials Certification service is designed for organisations that do not require help completing the self-assessment questionnaire and is available as a convenient online service helping organisations to save time and money.

The IT Governance Cyber Essentials Certification service can be booked online at www.itgovernance.co.uk/shop/p-1622.aspx.
