IT Governance certifies brightsolid to Cyber Essentials Plus

21/10/2015

Ely, United Kingdom, 20 October 2015 – IT Governance, the leading cyber security services provider and CREST-accredited certification body for the UK Government’s Cyber Essentials scheme, is pleased to announce that it has certified Cloud hosting and data centre experts brightsolid to Cyber Essentials Plus.

Alan Calder, the founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, says: “I am delighted to congratulate brightsolid on its successful certification. By attaining the Cyber Essentials Plus badge brightsolid can demonstrate to its clients that it has robust cyber security in place.”

A Rahim Khan, brightsolid's information security officer, says: “Security is at the heart of everything we do, we take cyber security very seriously – the data centre is our business and security is part of that foundation. Achieving Cyber Essentials Plus will add great value: sharing the knowledge is one of our core values and our security accreditations allow us to live this value safely and effectively whilst enabling our customers to do the same.

“This fits well with our other certificates like ISO/IEC 27001:2013 and ISO/IEC 22301:2012. This gives our customers absolute piece of mind that their data is in the safest hands and ensures that our team are kept upskilled and informed.”

Launched in June 2014, the Cyber Essentials scheme is designed to improve the resilience of UK businesses to cyber security threats, and provides verifiable certification of their robustness.

The scheme mandates five key controls that must be implemented for certification: secure configuration, boundary firewalls and Internet gateways, access control and administrative privilege management, patch management, and malware protection.

To achieve Cyber Essentials certification, companies need to complete a self-assessment questionnaire, signed off by a senior company representative, which is then verified by an external certification body. An external vulnerability scan will also be required if the company has chosen to be certified through a CREST-approved certification body like IT Governance.

Cyber Essentials Plus certification requires a more advanced level of assurance. In addition to the requirements for Cyber Essentials, the organisation must also undergo an on-site assessment and internal scan conducted by the certification body.
Applications for certification to Cyber Essentials with IT Governance are handled through the unique CyberComply portal, which allows companies to conduct the entire application online.
