IT Governance announces new series of Certified General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) training courses in Edinburgh

13/10/2016

IT Governance, the leading provider of cyber security expertise and ISO 17024-accredited training courses, is delighted to announce the launch of a new series of Certified General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Foundation and Practitioner training courses in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), due to come into force on 25 May 2018, provides a single harmonised data privacy law applicable across the EU. Organisations that collect and handle data on European data subjects will need to comply with the Regulation in order to avoid tough fines of up to 4% of annual turnover or €20 million, whichever is greater.

Alan Calder, the founder and chief executive officer of IT Governance, said: “We’re pleased to announce our new series of Certified GDPR Foundation and Practitioner training courses in Edinburgh. Despite Brexit, British organisations that do business with EU organisations or process EU subjects’ personal data will still need to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation.”

IT Governance’s ISO 17024-accredited GDPR Foundation training course provides a basic understanding of the GDPR. Meanwhile, the Certified GDPR Practitioner training course equips individuals with the comprehensive and practical knowledge to fulfil the role of data protection officer (DPO) and assist organisations in meeting the requirements of the Regulation.

“The GDPR requires substantial work before it comes into force in May 2018. That’s why we encourage organisations to equip individuals with the practical knowledge, skills and resources to create and update policies and procedures, conduct data flow audits and meet the requirements of the Regulation,” Alan Calder continued.

The one-day Certified EU General Data Protection Regulation Foundation classroom training course in Edinburgh will provide an introduction to the GDPR, and to the practical implications and legal requirements of the Regulation for UK-based businesses.

People more deeply involved in GDPR compliance projects can attend the Certified General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Practitioner training course. This course provides a practical understanding of the implementation requirements, the necessary policies and procedures, the role of data protection officer (DPO), the rights of data subjects and the data breach reporting requirements under the GDPR.

IT Governance supports professional development: upon completing each GDPR course – Foundation or Practitioner – delegates will be required to sit a 60-minute, multiple-choice exam. The (GDPR F) or (GDPR P) qualifications prove that the delegate has attained an in-depth understanding of the Regulation.
