Action for Children recertified to Cyber Essentials Plus with certification body IT Governance

12/01/2016

Children’s charity Action for Children has been recertified to Cyber Essentials Plus with the assistance of CREST-accredited certification body IT Governance.

Alan Crawford, chief information officer at Action for Children, explains: “‘I am a big fan of Cyber Essentials: as a government-backed and industry-supported scheme it allows us to demonstrate to stakeholders that we have essential IT security controls in place.

“I am proud of the Action for Children IT team for achieving the ‘Plus’ level of certification for two years running.  Action for Children have found the certification robust, worthwhile and cost effective.

“I would encourage all organisations to consider Cyber Essentials, especially those providing services to public sector bodies.”

Alan Calder, founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, says, “I am delighted to congratulate Action for Children on their successful recertification.

“Cyber Essentials compliance helps improve any organisation’s cyber security posture by providing a set of five critical controls that have to be implemented to meet its requirements. The scheme is as relevant to the charity sector as to any other.”

Cyber Essentials certification requires companies to submit a self-assessment questionnaire that attests to the successful implementation of the five key controls mandated by the scheme. An external vulnerability scan is required if the company has chosen to be certified through a CREST-accredited certification body such as IT Governance.

Cyber Essentials Plus certification provides a more advanced level of cyber assurance. In addition to the requirements for Cyber Essentials, this level of assurance is reached by an internal assessment and internal scan, conducted on-site by the certification body.

Companies wishing to achieve certification to the scheme can purchase a certification package directly from the IT Governance website.
