IT Governance congratulates communications firm Brass Agency on achieving Cyber Essentials certification

15/12/2014

IT Governance, the leading cyber security services provider and CREST-accredited certification body for the UK Government’s Cyber Essentials scheme, congratulates communications services provider Brass Agency on achieving Cyber Essentials certification.

Alan Calder, founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, says: “I am delighted to congratulate Brass Agency on their successful certification.”

Marc Binns, network manager at Brass Agency, says: "Having seen larger companies like Vodafone and Barclays lead the way with the certification it's great that Brass Agency has also been awarded the Cyber Essentials certificate.

“By attaining the Cyber Essentials badge we hope it demonstrates to our clients that we have a standard of cyber security in place for minimising attacks and safeguarding client data. We are extremely pleased to be associated with this scheme."

The Cyber Essentials scheme was officially launched on 5 June 2014. It is emerging as the default minimum standard for cyber security, and from 1 October 2014 the UK Government requires organisations to prove compliance with the scheme in order to bid for government contracts that involve the handling of sensitive and personal information, and the provision of certain technical products and services.

“Cyber Essentials compliance helps improve the cyber security posture of an organisation by providing a set of five critical controls, based on the most common Internet-based threats, which have to be implemented to meet its requirements.” Calder said.

In order to achieve Cyber Essentials certification, companies need to complete a self-assessment questionnaire, which must be signed off by a senior company representative and then verified by an external certification body. An external vulnerability scan will also be required if the company has chosen to be certified through a CREST-approved certification body like IT Governance.

Brass Agency took advantage of IT Governance’s Cyber Essentials Certification service, which is also available as a convenient online service (CyberComply) to help organisations save time and money.

The IT Governance Cyber Essentials Certification service can be booked online at www.itgovernance.co.uk/shop/p-1622.aspx.
